This album takes what had worked so well on albums like "Autumn Aurora" and "Blood In Our Wells", and experiments with the formula to create one of the best albums in this band's already stacked discography. It almost feels like there's some goth rock/postpunk elements here, especially on the absolutely amazing opener.
Favorite track: Solitary Endless Path.

Estrangement, animé par le souffle de l'aliénation liée à l'exil, présente une face plus militante de Drudkh puisqu'il s'inspire des poèmes d'Oleh Olzhych, activiste ukrainien contraint à quitter son pays et qui sera plus tard exécuté par la Gestapo.
Roman Saenko joue du coup la carte d'un black metal plus direct. Quelques passages mélancoliques subsistent (la phase instrumentale de "Solitary Endless Path") mais ce qui prime c'est l'impact avec un message plus politisé — et pas du meilleur goût. Favorite track: Solitary Endless Path.

Originally released in 2007, this album saw the Ukrainians return to their harsh Black Metal sound including blast beats, after the heavily Folklore inspired and partly acoustic “Songs of Grief and Solitude” (2006). With its clear and dark songwriting the band created an album that could nearly be called catchy, considering the genre, and even features some haunting solo parts. The lyrics on “Estrangement” are entirely derived from the words of the Ukrainian poet Oleh Olzhych. This masterpiece is now made available again in a much improved packaging.

Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. Not for nothing is Mgla considered as a standard for a lot of other blacker-than-black metal bands. I hope to see this band live once.....
